My name is JJ Wellman. I grew up in Virginia Beach, VA. My sweet parents, Phil and Grace Wellman, and brother, Chad, all love animals as much as I do, therefore, the Wellman home, growing up, was always festive with all sorts of fun animals….. a goat named “Olive Oil” who gave birth to kids “Basil and Oregano,” iguanas, chickens, turkeys, sheep, a pig, birds, wildlife being rehabilitated, and, of course, all sorts of rescued dogs and cats.

I started working for veterinarians when I turned 16 years old. I received my B.S. from Virginia Tech, M.S. from Old Dominion University, and D.V.M. from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. My first practice was located in Beaufort, SC. I founded my second practice, Pampered Paws Animal Hospital Oxford, MS, in 2004. It was a difficult decision to leave Pampered Paws in 2018, but I wanted to move closer to family and wanted to live in Colorado’s culture. We love nature, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, and all outdoor activities! I founded Happy Paws Aug 2018 and did housecalls until I found the right location June 2019.

We love Colorado! This is our home forever! We have a big fun family of rescued dogs and cats and Lila, the human child, who is 9 years old. Lila attends Aspen Creek Elementary.

Why did Dr. Wellman decided to become a vet.
